Nollywood, although you may not be familiar, is believed to be the third largest film industry (after Hollywood and Bollywood, of course). Nollywood is Nigeria's thriving film where they release about 1,000 movies each year and have created a $263 million industry. Everything is basic, low budget, and "real life" locations, but despite all of this, audiences are captivated by them. Now we can see why... "plots confront the viewer with familiar situations of romance, comedy, witchcraft, bribery, and prostitution. The narrative is overdramatic, deprived of happy endings, tragic. The aesthetic is loud, violent, excessive; nothing is said, everything is shouted."
